Our Outreach

Our Purpose

Junior Achievement is a nonprofit youth organization whose core purpose is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in the global economy. Junior Achievement moves this mission forward through hands-on programs that promote work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy.

Student Impact

Junior Achievement of Oregon & SW Washington will reach more than 44,000 Kindergarten through twelfth-grade students in over 1,700 classrooms this year alone.

Our programs have helped tens of thousands of students master essential academic and workplace skills and concepts, while developing critical thinking, problem-solving skills and teamwork. Junior Achievement programs utilize technology, simulations, virtual learning and the Internet to enrich the program experience and to mirror how young people today learn, interact and view the world. Our flexible, proven curriculum involves energetic activities and practical applications that are enhanced by JA volunteers’ personal experience.

Program Scope

More than 1,550 classrooms in 83 area school districts and private schools will integrate Junior Achievement programs into their daily curriculum.

Volunteers

JA volunteers serve as invaluable mentors in helping students understand the essential role that education plays in their future success. They transform the key concepts of our lessons into a message that inspires and empowers students to own their economic success. JA provides extensive volunteer and teacher training plus staff support, program resources and ongoing services at a national level.

Funding

Junior Achievement relies on private individual, foundation and corporate donors, as well as the funds raised by our special events volunteers. We are not a United Way agency and do not receive government funding. As such, funds raised through the Summer Golf Classic, Stock Market Challenge and Bowl-a-Thon events provide a significant source of revenue toward serving local students.
