2019 JA Scholarship Application Announced

The JA scholarship was established in 1950 to provide Junior Achievement students assistance in reaching their educational and career goals through higher education. The 2018-2019 scholarship, funded by local benefactors, will be awarded to the well-rounded JA student who demonstrates significant financial need, an interest in business and free enterprise, and has excelled both in academic and extracurricular activities.  Scholarship dollars of up to $10,000, awarded toward tuition expenses only, will be awarded to the student(s) who best meets the following criteria:
 A student is eligible for the JA Scholarship if he/she:
•    Has participated in Junior Achievement during his/her Junior or Senior year
•    Plans to apply knowledge of free enterprise and business in his/her future career
•    Will enter college as a full-time student in the Fall of 2019
•    Has attained a GPA of 3.0 or above
•    Has financial need 
•    Demonstrates leadership through participation in extracurricular and/or community service activities
•    Must be available to attend donor luncheon (date to be determined) in the month of July at the Junior Achievement office, 7830 SE Foster Road in Portland, Oregon. 
The Application Process
 Students who wish to apply for the JA Scholarship must submit the items listed below. All applications must be received by Friday, May 3rd, 2019 at 4:30p.m. Please include ALL of the following to ensure your eligibility:
•    Scholarship Application and Essay
•    Resume
•    A letter of recommendation from a teacher or principal
•    Academic transcripts
Essay - The essay portion of the application asks for a 250-500 word response to: Describe what your Junior Achievement experience taught you about business and free enterprise. How will this experience help you to achieve your future professional goals?

Selected finalists for the JA Scholarship will participate in an interview, either in-person or via Skype, to take place at the Junior Achievement office, 7830 SE Foster Road, Portland on Thursday, May 16th, 2019.  The times will be determined at a later date. (Junior Achievement will not be responsible for any expenses incurred in order for a student to attend the interview.)
