President's Letter - COVID-19 Update

Dear JA Partners,

We understand that the novel coronavirus, now known as COVID-19, is causing much anxiety in our community, state and the world. Junior Achievement of Oregon & SW Washington is monitoring the situation closely and is in contact with local schools and public health departments. The safety and well-being of our staff, students, teachers, JA volunteers and business partners, are among our highest priorities.

We want to assure you that we are being vigilant of ongoing updates and are following best practices in conjunction with the recommendations from the CDC and local health authorities. The Oregon Health Authority has set up a comprehensive website that includes statewide tracking of COVID-19 as well as an information line, which can be reached by dialing 211.

At the current time, we have no plans to close or cancel any of our programs. Please be advised that if a student arrives at a simulation and is displaying signs of illness, we will need to ask that a parent or guardian pick up the student, and that student will, unfortunately not be allowed to participate in the simulation. Likewise, if a volunteer displays signs of illness we will ask that the volunteers excuse themselves for that simulation day.

We have instituted enhanced cleaning of all surfaces in JA BizTown and JA Finance Park. Hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes are provided for our JA BizTown and JA Finance Park simulation sites, and soap and water is available in all restrooms.

If you have any questions specific to Junior Achievement’s response to this matter, please inquire with our front desk on the day of your visit, or in advance by reaching out to Barb Smith at bsmith@ja-pdx.org or myself with any questions.
